Although the TAAU message board is an excellent source for news and events, we wanted to do more, and so in the tradition of all the big US-based news sites out there, we have assembled a team of reporters to constantly update this section each and every day for you. As there are already a number of excellent international news sites out there, we have decided to dedicate this section to Australian-specific information only, all of which we receive direct from our contacts at Hasbro, Madman, Atari and, of course, the hundreds of TAAU members out there who visit the site each and every day to report their findings, so if you want to keep up-to-date with local news and events, this is the place to be!

"BATTLE FOR ENERGON" MARATHON APRIL 2

Cartoon Network has started advertising its next Transformers event: the "Battle For Energon" marathon, which will run for most of the day on Saturday, April 2. The marathon is being screened as part of Hasbro's big sales push for the not-really-new-anymore combiner teams, and advertising for the toys will feature throughout.

There's no word yet as to which episodes will be shown on the day but, from the look of the advertising clip, it's likely to be early episodes of the series, rather than the ten or so episodes CN has yet to show.

FOUNDER OF MELBOURNE HOUSE PASSES AWAY

The founder of Melbourne House, the company who produced the Transformers: Armada game among others, has passed away at the age of 46.

Here is the article as published by The Age

The Australian games development community is mourning the loss of its passionate leader, Adam Lancman.

Mr Lancman, 46, was the president of the Game Developers' Association of Australia since its inception in 1999 and devoted more than two decades to the local games industry.

The association's executive director, Evelyn Richardson, said Mr Lancman was the industry's elder statesman and leading contributor.

"He was incredibly generous in terms of his time, intellect and huge knowledge, and over the years did so much to grow the local industry, giving a lot of people their first break and supporting many others," she said. "He believed very strongly that Australian developers could compete globally and he was passionate about everything he did."

Australian Game Developers Conference co-ordinator Casey Gregory said he "helped grow a small fledging industry and put the Australian Game Development Community on the map".

A founder of pioneering codeshop Melbourne House, Mr Lancman recently resigned as chief executive and managing director after 23 years.

Mr Lancman helped steer the company from early home computers to console development and the 1999 acquisition by Infogrames, now Atari. Highlights included Way of the Exploding Fist, Shadowrun, Grand Prix Challenge and Transformers.

Staff paid tribute to Mr Lancman "as both a great leader but also a true friend. His enthusiasm, belief and trust will be missed by all".

Personal assistant Camille Wall said Mr Lancman lived with "dignity and passion".

Developer Kevin Burfitt met his boss - who was dressed as Carmen Miranda - at a Melbourne House Christmas party a decade ago. "I knew right then and there that this was going to be a great place to work," he said.

Mr Burfitt described Mr Lancman as a "true believer in what the Australian industry could do. He fearlessly went out there to drive our industry forward. He was much too young to be taken from us".

Truly a sad day. My condolences - and those of the fandom I'm sure - go out to his family and friends.
