| Although
the TAAU message
board is an excellent source for news and events, we wanted
to do more, and so in the tradition of all the big US-based
news sites out there, we have assembled a team of reporters
to constantly update this section each and every day for you.
As there are already a number of excellent international news
sites out there, we have decided to dedicate this section to
Australian-specific information only, all of which we receive
direct from our contacts at Hasbro, Madman, Atari and, of course,
the hundreds of TAAU members out there who visit the site each
and every day to report their findings, so if you want to keep
up-to-date with local news and events, this is the place to
be! |

TAAU INVADES THE MASS-MEDIA
TAAU founder and webmaster Stephen Jesson has been interviewed for an article on Transformer collecting and the upcoming live-action movie.
The article originally ran in The Advertiser newspaper in Adelaide, and was subsequently chosen to lead the entertainment section of the News.com.au website.
Congratulations to Stephen on hitting "the big time", and hopefully the story will lead to a greater public profile for TAAU and a greater mainstream interest in Transformers.

GOOD AND BAD NEWS FOR 2005 RELEASES
Don't shoot the messenger.
I had occasion today to speak with former TAAU member Laserbeak, who was kind enough to give me the update on both the latest and upcoming TF releases. Some of what he said will elicit cheers while other parts... well, read on.
First, the good news: Toys 'R' Us stores around the country should, by now, have received shipments containing the highly-desirable Energon Grimlock/Swoop and Kicker/Highwire. Other stores are likely to receive their stocks of the Dinobots in late January, and of Kicker and his Mini-con buddy earlier the same month, once their existing stocks of earlier waves have depleted.
Also in the positive category, a business decision that would have resulted in Australia missing out on three Energon figures has been reversed, with said toys instead slated to be Case Fresh exclusives. Those figures are: Alpha Quintesson, Sixshot (the redeco of Shockblast) and Overcast (the redeco of Jetfire).
And now... the bad news. Australian stores, both online and in the "real world", will miss out on the following:
Energon: Quickstrike (Bulkhead redeco), Omega Sentinel (Omega Supreme redeco)
Universe: Soundwave and Space Case two-pack (G2 redecos), Long Haul, Bonecrusher, Scavenger (RID Build Team redecos).
Looking further forward, a large-scale advertising campaign is planned for March to promote the new generation of gestalts, and to "explain the concept" to the public.
The first wave of Cybertron figures, meanwhile, remains scheduled for a June/July release, with Laserbeak commenting Hasbro "have done a really nice job with the packaging". He's also seen the first clips of the finished animation for the accompanying TV series, which left him "very, very impressed - and I'm hard to impress. It reminded me a lot of Beast Machines - that highly-polished, reflective, computer-animated look".
A mixed bag of news, to be sure, but at least we all now know what to expect in 2005.

ENERGON COMIC, AUSTRALIAN-STYLE, HITS SHELVES
TAAU board member Alphatrion reports finding the first issue of the Australian-published Energon comic at his local newsagent yesterday.
Retailing for $6.95, the Otter Press comic features two issues of Dreamwave's US title. Unlike previous Otter releases, the comic is in the "standard" size, rather than the smaller digest format.
For those of you who missed out on Simon Furman's vision of Energon the first time 'round... or simply think the Dreamwave Pockets are silly, now is your chance to grab the early issues for a good price.

CARTOON NETWORK RUNS OUT OF ENERGON... FOR NOW
Foxtel's digital TV listings show that tomorrow (Friday December 17) is the last day in Cartoon Network's weekday run of Transformers: Energon for this year. This segment of the series will conclude with the second showing of the episode "Unicron Perishes".
CN, however, is using clips from both Energon and its predecessor, Armada, in promotions for the daily eight-hour marathons of the Toonami block, which start next Monday. The first four days of marathons will feature Dragonball Z and Zoids: Fuzors, with information for subsequent days currently unavailable.
CN is also promoting Armada and Energon as part of its January 2005 line-up.
So while we may miss out on Transformery goodness over the Christmas break, it shan't be long before the battling 'bots return to our screens!

NEW FIGURES ARRIVE AT CASE FRESH
Our generous site sponsor, Case Fresh, has just informed me that a few new items have arrived with them this week:
Alternators: Grimlock and Swindle
Energon: Powerlinx Kick Back, Beachcomber, Wing Saber, Grimlock, Swoop and Super Galvatron
Palisades: Soundwave Mini Statue
These represent the last new Transformers to be shipped out of Hasbro for the remainder of the year, so once their current stock sells out, they will not be receiving any more until early January.
Remember all orders over $80 ship for free, so take advantage of their great savings... while stocks last!

BTR MEGATRON/CYCLONUS PACK AT TOYWORLD
Studs. No longer just a bad early 1990s television show - now they are the latest accessory sported by the leader of the Decepticons, Megatron.
TAAU board member iamonqq reports finding the new Built To Rule two-pack, featuring building-block versions of Megatron and Cyclonus, at Doncaster Westfield Toyworld for $34.99. Fellow member Annoyance found the same pack at his local Toy Kingdom outlet for the same price.
It's expected these two fiends (Megs and Cyclonus, not our beloved TAAU members) will spread their do-it-yourself evil to stores across the country over the coming days.

HAVE YOUR SAY ON MADMAN'S G1 COLLECTION 6 DVD BOX SET EXTRAS
I received word from distribution company extraordinaire Madman Entertainment this morning, who have told me that extras are starting to surface for the final release of their G1 DVD box set (Collection 6), and, as always, they want our feedback!
So, usual protocol please: have a read over the two questions included in the poll, copy and paste them into an email, add your comments, then sling them my way: myvote@theyareamongus.com.
As usual, a box set (Collection 6) and t-shirt (Autobot or Decepticon logo in the size of your choice) will go to one lucky respondent of each question.
Also, due to popular demand, Madman have just recently introduced small size t-shirts for those more in common with Bumblebee than Fortress Maximus, so check out their excellent retro range here, with more Transformer designs coming in 2005!
Anyway, enough from me: on with the poll!
