[ TRANSFORMERS:
THE MOVIE > AUSTRALIAN 'SPECIAL EDITION' DVD RELEASE FROM
MADMAN ENTERTAINMENT ]
Unless, as Kup would say, your eyes
have been covered in the dust of Beta 4 for the past few months,
then you'll know that Madman
Entertainment are due to release a very special Australian
DVD release of Transformers: The Movie in March, 2003.
TAAU teamed up with Madman last year to do our best to ensure
that this version would be the all-singing, all-dancing version
that everyone out here wanted; a release which would make
the rest of the world sit up and pay attention, and thanks
to Madman, that's exactly what they've given us!
So browse through the following pages and learn all about
its development, special features, fan contributions and,
possibly most exciting of all: the exclusive DVD cover art
from Dreamwave's very own Don Figueroa, specially commissioned
for the Australian release!

UPDATES FROM MADMAN ENTERTAINMENT |
 |
 |
March’s
release of Transformers: The Movie is to feature original
and exclusive cover-art in what is to be a global first!
It was recently announced
that Dreamwave Productions’ Don Allan Figueroa,
artist for the popular Transformers: The War Within
comic series, would be contributing art for this cult-classic
release.
“Naturally, we’re
pretty chuffed!” said Dean Prenc, co-producer
of the Transformers DVD release. “Dreamwave are
the premiere company when it comes to Transformers artwork!
Their first comic series has been reprinted a number
of times and Don and Simon [Furman’s] War Within
is going great guns. Hasbro even contracted Dreamwave
for the art on their Armada toys!”
“What Don has delivered,
with the help of his colorist [Alan Wang], makes this
DVD a true collector’s item, especially when you
consider that the only place globally you’re going
to be able get this artwork is with our DVD. Hell, it’s
like we’re throwing in a free movie with Don’s
art!”
Madman have also released
the lists of extra to be featured on the disc [below],
many of which have not appeared in any other territory.

PROGRESS UPDATE >>
After fielding many questions
from the community for Dean Prenc - one of Madman Entertainment's
producers on their stunning Australian release of TF:TM
- we then collated all the submissions and forwarded
them on to him. You can now read Dean's interesting
and very detailed email interview in the new 'Madman
Speaks' section.

PROGRESS UPDATE >>
Madman have just informed
us that all submissions for our 'Design an Outback'
competition will feature on the DVD, so congratulations
to all those who put entries forward; your artwork should
hopefully appear on the disc!

PROGRESS UPDATE >>
In addition to the very
exciting DVD, Madman will also be releasing a VHS version
of Transformers: The Movie as well. At this stage it
has a PG certificate, however there is a chance that
it could change to a G rated censored version, but this
is yet to be confirmed. The VHS version has a running
time of 86 mins and will retail for $19.95. |

PROGRESS UPDATE >>
As a result of the continued
interest and excitement surrounding Madman Entertainment's
up-coming Australian special edition DVD release of
Transformers: The Movie, we were contacted by the disc's
producer, offering us the opportunity to carry out a
short email interview with none other than Don Figueroa,
the Dreamwave artist responsible for the stunning front
cover! Read his answers in the new 'Dreamwave
Speaks' section.

PROGRESS UPDATE >>
While the DVD cover will
be reversible, Madman have reported to us that only
one one side will contain Don Figueroa's artwork, with
the other containing either the UK or US movie poster
image. Madman will most likely slick these DVDs up in
a 50/50 ratio, so the two designs will likely appear
in equal numbers on store shelves.

PROGRESS UPDATE >>
One of the many great
ideas to come out of the survey carried out at the beginning
of 2002, asking fans to submit their suggestions and
requests for possible special features on the DVD, was
to include an 'Outback Character Profile' somewhere
on the disc. Following on from that suggestion,
TAAU came up with the idea to run a community-wide competition,
open to all Australian fans, to design an original artwork/illustration
of Outback in all his glory. The prize for the competition
was to have the winning entry encoded on to the actual
DVD itself!
Please visit our Fan Contributions
section to learn more and view some of the submitted
designs. |

PROGRESS UPDATE >>
TAAU can exclusively reveal that Madman are currently
in discussions with Dreamwave Productions at present
in the hope of securing a contribution from them!
|
21/07/02:
PROGRESS UPDATE >>
Although originally scheduled for an August 2002 release,
Madman have decided to push the DVD back until early
2003 as they feel it may clash with their scheduled
Robotech releases. This will also afford them more time
to continue working on further extras for the disc,
so we're sure it will be well worth the wait!
|
14/05/02:
PROGRESS UPDATE >>
We can exclusively reveal that Hasbro Australia have
kindly provided Madman with a tape of old Transformers
adverts. There will be approximately six adverts will
be appearing on the disc, extending up to series 2 Transformers
such as the Jetfire, Shockwave and the Dinobots.

PROGRESS UPDATE >>
Well, after receiving hundreds
of posts, emails and even a few hand written letters,
we have compiled everyone's requests and have sent them
on to Madman for their consideration, and, in appreciation
of everyone's hard work, we have just received this
message from the Managing Director of Madman entertainment
himself, with this generous message:
"Dear Stephen,
On behalf of Madman
entertainment, I wish to thank your site and all the
Australian fans who took part in the Transformers: The
Movie survey; the results you generously compiled and
presented to us will be most valuable in planning this
project and we will investigate all of the options open
to us. I look forward to providing TAAU with more news
on this project closer to the final release date.
All the best on behalf
of Madman Entertainment."

PROGRESS UPDATE >>
After building up a great working relationship with
Madman over the past few weeks, we have suggested that
we possibly carry out a survey for them, to find out
what some of the fans out here would like to see on
the disc. As a result, they have asked us to begin accepting
ideas and suggestions regarding possible extras for
the DVD! This is a great opportunity for the fans to
have their say and to really contribute to the shaping
of this release, so post your want lists on our forums
or send them to us via email if you're not a board member! |
