THE TRANSFORMERS, BY OCEAN:

Here it is: the classic Transformers platform game, published in 1985 by Ocean for the C64 and Spectrum 48k, which sees you controlling the heroic Autobots: Optimus Prime, Hound, Jazz, Mirage and Bumblebee!

THE TRANSFORMERS, FOR C64

The Autobots have an energy crisis and must work as a team to repel the attack of the evil Decepticons while collecting the four pieces of the Autobot Energon Cube and transporting them to Autobot Centre. The Decepticons will attempt to steal these cubes and it will be only a matter of time before they succeed.

In the long struggle against the evil forces only five Autobots remain: Optimus Prime, Jazz, Hound, Mirage and Bumblebee - whereas the Decepticon have perfected ROBO-CLONING reproducing any of their number which you destroy. The five heroes have a daunting task ahead but gain some advantage from the DEFENSA-PODS under which they may seek shelter and regain their strength.

[ CONTROLLING THE CHARACTERS ]

Q = Up / Fly / Run up stairs
A = Down / Run down stairs
Z = Left
X = Right
1 = Fire / Select

TRANSFORMING: Face the robot towards you and press Q or A to switch between Robot Mode and Alt Mode, then press 1 to select.

TRANSFORMING: Face the robot towards you and press 5 to transform between Robot Mode and Alt Mode.

MYSTERY OF CONVOY, BY TAKARA:

This rare Japanese Super Famicon game, Mystery of Convoy, is an early 2D side-shooter released by Takara in 1985 and sees you controlling the mighty Ultra Magnus! Be warned though, it's seriously hard!

MYSTERY OF CONVOY, FOR NES

You play as Ultra Magnus and it is your job to... well, we're not really sure about the finer points of the game to be honest, but there are nine insanely challenging levels to claw your way through, featuring enemies like Starscream, Skywarp, Laserbeak, Bumblebee, Menasor, Bruticas, Megatron and Trypticon as the final Boss!

Every stage in the game contains blue triangles which are only revealed when certain parts of the screen are fired upon, but it's worth experimenting here as each triangle is worth 1,000 points and you are awarded an extra life with every 20,000 points scored.

In addition, some Starscreams leave the following power-ups behind, which do the following:

P = Power up rifle
B = Absorb 3 enemy attacks.
F = Press and hold 'A' to fly!
1 = Extra life.
D = Negates any previous power-ups you have

[ CONTROLLING THE CHARACTERS ]

A = 1 or 2 player menu select
S = Start game / Pause game
Left cursor key = Left
Right Cursor key = Right
D = Fire
F = Jump

TRANSFORMING: Hold the 'down' cursor key to transform into Alt Mode, and hold the 'up' cursor key to transform back into Robot Mode.
